If you have ever played franchise mode before, you know that NBA 2K allows you to add “expansion” teams or customize how the NBA divisions are shaped before you begin your season. For this season, I added six new teams, bringing the total of teams up to 36, and moved the OKC Thunder to the Southwest division. I drew inspiration from former NBA franchises and some creations from the 2K community.

New Teams

Western Conference

Las Vegas Aces

Las Vegas finally gets their own NBA team. Inspired by the WNBA Vegas team, the Aces are now an NBA team with a fresh new logo.

Seattle Supersonics

That’s right, the Sonics are back! After robbing the city of Seattle for it’s NBA team, I have decided it’s time to right the ship. I grew up watching this team in the 90’s and rooted for them with pride in 1996, so it was a no brainer.

Vancouver Kodiaks

Basketball is back in Vancouver! After the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Vancouver was left in the dust … but not any more! The new squad in Canada is now named the Kodiaks, keeping with the bear theme.

Eastern Conference

Montréal Stars

Montréal has patiently waited for a team and now, all you virtual Canadians can eat poutine while watching NBA basketball (you know poutine will be served at the arena!). Welcome the Montréal Stars to the Eastern Conference!

Cincinnati Royals

The Royals existed in the NBA from 1957 to 1972, so they were one of the oldest franchises in league history. The Royals moved to Kansas City, changed their name to the Kings, then moved to Sacramento. The Royals are back in Cincy with a fresh, redesigned look. Welcome back!

Baltimore Bombers

The Baltimore Bombers are a brand new franchise entering the league. I was debating between a couple of former ABA teams … the St. Louis Spirits and the Baltimore Bullets, but the Bombers logo caught my attention and I made an executive decision.
