#6 – Miami Heat
2013 NBA Champions
Number 6 Seed: Eastern Conference

The Miami Heat were coming off a title in 2012. After signing LeBron James & Chris Bosh to pair with Dwyane Wade in the summer of 2010, they were already the league’s most hated team, and now the target on their back was even larger. Adding fuel to the fire, the Heat added sharpshooter, and former Boston Celtic, Ray Allen to the mix. The Heat started off the season nicely, but had not separated themselves from the pack. On February 1st, 2013, the Heat’s record was 29-14, only 1/2 games up on the Knicks, while far behind the pace of the top West teams. The Heat would not lose again until March 27th, winning a total of 27 games in a row (2nd only to the ’72 Lakers). At the conclusion of the regular season, the Heat won 66 games and got the top overall seed in the playoffs. In the postseason, the Heat would go 8-1 in the first two round, before facing the Pacers in the East Finals. The Pacers and Heat would battle for seven intense games, with each team winning road games. In the end, the Heat were too much for the Pacers, winning game 7 and advancing to their third straight finals. Their opponent this time was the San Antonio Spurs, the number one seed in the West. In one of the best NBA Finals in recent memory, the defining moment happened in Game 6, in Miami. The Heat down in the series 3-2, were down by 3 in the game. Ray Allen hits a corner three, off of an offensive rebound by Bosh, with 5.2 seconds to tie the game. The Heat won Game 6 in overtime, and won Game 7 on their home floor, to capture their second straight title. LeBron James took home NBA Finals MVP and NBA MVP for the second straight season.
