Erick’s Prediction: DRAW
Light Heavyweight Champion Artur Beterbiev defends his IBF title against Radivoje Kalajdzic Saturday night on ESPN plus. However, unless you have a family member fighting on the Stockton ESPN card, boxing fans will be watching Canelo VS Jacobs on DAZN. Canelo who signed a $365 Million deal with DAZN will be fighting Daniel Jacobs for a chance to unify Canelo’s Ring, WBA, WBC, and Daniel Jacobs IBF middleweight belts. The fight might also move the winner of the contest to the top of a lot of P4P lists. This is a competitive fight on paper and should give us a lot of action if it all goes as expected.
Canelo Alvarez seems to be fully in the legacy building phase of his career and is looking to fight anyone that can be perceived as a threat, to prove he is the best boxer in the world. Canelo proved to most of us (he will still always have his haters) that he is the best middleweight in the world after fighting GGG twice, getting a draw in the first fight and a victory in his second fight. Daniel Jacobs also fought GGG to a competitive, and controversial loss. I had GGG winning the fight, but Jacobs gave GGG the toughest fight of his career up till that point. Jacobs was knocked down in the 4th round, but he was able to regroup and started winning some rounds against GGG towards the 2nd half of the fight. Jacobs has size, power, and solid fundamentals. Those are all reasons as to why Jacobs isn’t a huge underdog (between +300 and +385).
I mentioned why I believe Jacobs has a chance to win the fight, and why it could be an action-packed fight, but Canelo is at the top of the middleweight division, and until he is dethroned, my money is on him. Canelo has shown that he can win against, a boxer, a brawler, and against bigger guys, and even though he has accomplished so much, he is still improving after each fight, which is a scary thought. Rooting interest wise I will be rooting for the American Daniel Jacobs, but I believe Canelo will keep his belts when the fight is over. With that being said, I believe the fight will end in a draw, and we all will get the instant classic we are hoping for.
