NY Mets Weekly Recap: April 6-10

The NY Mets have played 11 games in 2019 and while their start isn’t like it was in 2018, they’ve had plenty of bright moments so far … led by reigning CY Young Jacob deGrom and rookie slugger Pete Alonso. After an impressive 5-2 start, the Mets had a couple of weirdly-timed off days and after starting off the week with a win, had a couple of tough losses. Noah Syndergaard expressed his displeasure that the Mets played their day-time home opener the day after a road-night game:

Syndergaard:“Losing doesn’t feel good, but I don’t think we were in the proper situation to win the ballgame based on the rest of the guys, sleep, and travel….

Reporter: Would you guys have rather played tonight?

Syndergaard: Tonight, or a day game yesterday. Would have been nice.”

The Mets were able to bounce back yesterday and remain tied for first place with the Braves and Phillies in the NL East, with the Braves and Phillies on deck! Let’s take a look at how week number two played out for the NY Mets:

The NY Mets have found their slugger! First baseman Pete Alonso has been the guy the Mets needed so far early on, leading the team in home runs, runs batted in, and OPS. Alonso was especially hot this past week, slugging at least one home run in three straight games. If Alonso can keep this up, good things will be in store for the Amazins.

Zack Wheeler is supposed to be the key starter in the rotation for the Mets but he has started the year poorly in his first two starts. Wheeler has had an interesting start to his career. You can clearly see the talent he possesses, however, he has too many instances where he gives up way too many runs. Hopefully he can turn it around.
