In an unprecedented fashion, legendary golfers Tiger Woods & Phil Mickelson are playing one-on-one! Sure, it would be hilarious to see these two play basketball, but we’re talking golf here! This match was talked about briefly about a month ago, when Phil said he wanted a high-stakes head-to-head match against Tiger, and was quoted as saying “I don’t know if he wants a piece of me”. Everyone took it at banter and left it at that, but apparently this was actually in the works.
“I don’t know if he wants a piece of me”. – Phil Mickelson
According to Golf.com’s Alan Shipnuck, TV networks and sponsors have been trying to get involved, and Phil even stated this match almost happened JULY 3! The location looks like it will be Las Vegas’ Shadow Creek, according to GolfDigest. It makes complete sense that this is a made-for-TV event. I would not be surprised if this was on ESPN+ or PPV. Phil and Tiger played a practice round together at The Masters this year, and everyone got excited. At The Players Championship in May, Tiger said he was up for Phil’s challenge, at whatever cost made it “comfortable”. Tiger is clearly the bigger-baller here, and has the coin to back it up. Stay tuned for more information, as we will post updated as they come in.
“I’m definitely not against that. We’ll play for whatever makes him comfortable.” – Tiger Woods
